Weekend With Love
Sushi Buffet Date
Wow, it's been some time since I last blogged an entry regarding my weekend dates with Fai. I remember how we used to always head out every weekend exploring new places and going for brunches etc. Seems like time isn't really on our side that much anymore :( Just a couple of days ago, I was looking back at all of my old entries and I'd realized how exciting my life was then compared to how "monotone" it is now. It's time to step up and take control for my life from now on. I'm planning to have MORE FUN.
Anyway, we managed (or rather, I managed) to put aside some time from our busy schedule and went for a Sushi buffet date yesterday! Fai and I LOVES sushi and having Japanese for dinner isn't the same without one of our favorite dishes of all time, the Salmon Sashimi! We sat down and admired it for quite a while before telling each other how weird it is to be eating raw fish. And that really got me thinking and asking myself "Why do we eat raw salmon?".
So I did a little bit of reading up on the internet and tried to find out about the history of how eating raw fish came about in Japan. Unfortunately, there isn't much specific information on the exact date it started, but the Japanese have been eating raw dishes since an era called the "Nara-era" (AD 710 to 794). You see, Japan is surrounded by water, hence their main source of food would be from the sea. Compared to meat and poultry, fish contains less connective tissues in the the muscle, making them much easier to chew hence being able to be eaten raw.
Of course raw fish may contain parasites and bacteria, but since this practice is customary for the Japanese and nothing has happened to anyone since, it's perfectly fine to eat raw salmon prepared by a certified cook. And anyway, it's much healthier and MUCH MUCH tastier! Don't you think? ;)
Fai and I opted for the Eat All You Want Premium buffet at Scape's Sakae Sushi which entitled us to a wide variety of delicacies. It's about $30 for adults and $27 for youths (below 21 years old). Usually, we would satisfy our sushi cravings at Nihon Mura Express (Cineleisure basement) where everything is only at $1.50. But we decided to chip in a little more this time to enjoy sushi at a better quality.
And it was definitely worth every penny cause I've never tasted such wholesome Salmon Sashimi for such a long time. There is a huge difference between a plate of $1.50 Sashimi and $6.20 Sashimi. It's great to have a cheaper alternative but I highly recommend everyone to give the higher grade Sashimi a try once a while as well.
Sakae Sushi's Salmon Sashimi was the most tender fish I've ever eaten. And no matter how full I was from the buffet, there was always room for more Salmon Sashimi. It's THAT awesome!!
Fai has such long eyelashes. *Jealous*
Chomping away on my new favorite dish, Ebi Mentai Crepe Maki. It is heavenly.
And of course, everyone's favorite Chawanmushi. I used to hate it and but recently, I've learnt to appreciate it's goodness.
Some of the other dishes we ordered. It felt great to order anything we wanted since it was a buffet. For once we didn't have to keep checking up on the price and it's worth. hehehe
It doesn't look like it here but Fai and I ordered way too much. It was a SUPER satisfying meal but we've learnt not to be so greedy in future. HAHA. Kaisu-ism at it's best!
We headed off to check out H&M after and for once I felt like almost a tourist because Fai and I haven't hung out in town for a pretty long time. As usual, we spent a couple of bucks shopping and we ended the night heading back to his place. I wish I could have more of days like this. So carefree and more importantly, STRESS-FREE.
Well, we have a pretty exciting weekend coming up soon. So at least there's something to look forward to. Like I'd mentioned earlier, it's time for me to take charge of my life and start having fun before it's too late! Have a great week ahead everyone and thanks for reading :)
xoxo,
Eunice Annabel
