It's My Birthday Week!
Dinner @Ikoi, Surprise with OOTD & Family Dinner
Hey guys! It's been almost a week since I've turned 20 and I'm glad that I am not so emotional about it anymore. Things have been going pretty well so far. I haven't really been doing anything much lately (I mean seriously. Cause I've been skipping school a lot lately too. hehe). So apart from blogging and catching up with my friends, there's basically nothing to do. I guess that's kinda what turning 20 is about? It's that age where you feel lost all a sudden at what to do. I hope the new week will turn out better- The Lion Men gala premiere is just a few days away, so is reunion dinner, I guess I can expect a little more excitement in my life once again.
Anyway, I had a great birthday. My long-awaited staycation with Fai was awesome, we finally had time alone together away from work (kinda), I had more then enough rest and I felt less anxious about everything. It was also great being able to catch up with all my friends on the very same day.
Apart from that, I was surprised by Elaine (owner of Ashincans), Iris (owner of Twistpolka), and Vilvian and Gui Jie (owners of La Novella studio) after a shoot with a top notch Durian cake! Yum!
In case you're unaware, I love Durian!
After which, they brought me to one of the BEST Japanese buffets ever! I highly recommend you guys to try it out some time because the Salmon Sashimi was the BOMB! I never thought that I'll ever eat one that fresh and smooth. Take down this address cause you'll need it!
Ikoi Japanese Restaurant

Don't be deceive by the appearance of the relatively tiny restaurant. It is located in Miramar Hotel, which seems to be a rather old dodgy kinda hotel, but you know what they say! Some times the best food are found in the most unexpected places ;)
I love how Ikoi had a very Japanese setting. It's probably a really old restaurant that might have been opened for business since the 90's? So the authenticity is there, you know that they're not supposedly trying to be all Japanese-ish. It's rather quiet in there and I like how it was kinda "separated" from the world outside which allowed me to further enjoy the entire process. I think that it'll be a rather good place to catch up with your friends thanks to it's relaxing ambience.
Oh yes and Fai was invited to join us after work too! He finally got to meet the people I work with all the time and I am so glad that they all hit it off REALLY well.
Elaine, being a regular customer, told us that we had to order as much as we want the first round because the waitress would pretend not to care the second time. And so we did.
There's a HUGE variety of dishes and that's great but here's what I didn't quite like about Ikoi. It's menu doesn't have any picture descriptions on it, nothing but just names of the dishes in Japanese. So if you're not a regular sushi consumer, you're gonna be lost for sure. Thank God that I absolutely adore sushi so I knew exactly what to order. But if you're not like me, and you want to give this place a try, I recommend you to go with someone who's a little more knowledgable about Jap food or do your homework and research little more about it before you come.

Look at the amount of Sashimi we ordered! Mostly Salmon of course! Ikoi serves by pieces, so you just let the waitress know how many you want and if I'm not wrong, there's about 90 here. hehehe
With the person who helped me start my entire modeling journey which led to me being a blogger as well. Thank you Elaine for everything who've done for me. From buying me food all the time to sharing Durian mooncakes with me every year to never forgetting to get me a gift for my birthday as well. Without Elaine and Ashincans, I would never be who I am today. I am really grateful that up till now (about 3 years already), she still uses me as her model. And that means a lot :)
I also wanna thank Iris, Vilvian and Gui Jie for being a part of my life over the years. It was such a pleasure witnessing each other's growth and success, and I know that there'll be many more years to come!

P.S. Allow me to take this opportunity to say that I have a weird fascination for pretty storage space, be it pouches like these or boxes. hahaha)
Our dinner ended well and we all headed home barely able to walk! hahaha. Trust me, wear baggy clothes if you're planning to dine at Ikoi buffet. Oh yeah, if you're wondering, it's about SGD$50 per adult which is really worth it for quality Japanese food. And make reservations before you come!

On my birthday, exactly on the 22nd January 2014, I was pleasantly surprised by the OOTD team- Cleo, Ming Quan and their fur friend Crunch! hehehe. I really didn't expect it at all!! Thank God I was working on my advertorial pictures and had make up on. I think I would freak out if anyone ever surprises me while I'm still in bed. hahaha
I had my back facing my room's door and was editing pictures and all of a sudden, they started singing "Happy Birthday" to me! I had a shock when I saw them standing behind me in my SUPER messy room. I was caught off guard and had no time to tidy anything at all! It was probably one of the best surprises I've ever had. They really manage to get me this time. hahaha
Thank you guys for being the sweetest people alive. No words can describe how thankful I am to God for allowing me to meet Cleo and MQ. Not only are they exceptionally kind and thoughtful, they're inspirational as well and I wish them all the prosperity in the world for OOTD <3
Oh and I have to thank my brother for setting this up with them! hahaha.

I'd spent the rest of 20th birthday at home with my family of course. I never understood how people could celebrate their birthdays away from the very people that brought them up. I'd always imagine my parents being really sad if I would to be away from them on my birthday. I don't expect much on my birthday at all cause I've never really had a party for myself as a kid and I just grew up with the mentality that it's really not necessary at all. I rather have a quiet dinner with my loved ones over getting drunk at a party or a club.
My family and I had steamboat at home that night and as always, there's too much food cause my mom loves feeding us. But of course, it's better to have more than less. And I'm so glad that my family is totally open and alright with Fai being around that night as well! I am so thankful for such an understanding and supportive family <3

And that's about it! I loved how simple but meaningful my 20th was. That's exactly how I want my year to be and it's great starting it on the right foot with my very own birthday.

When A Girl Wears Jewelry
I can't wait for Chinese New Year to come. Not only will I finally be able to have a break from school, I'll also get to indulge in all those festive goodies. hehehe. Apart from that, I always look forward to celebrations and parties cause that's the only time you get to really dress up and not feel out of place.
